I coin roll hunt and know pretty much nothing about errors. I sometimes pause to look at something slightly off-center or puzzle over odd-looking wear patterns, but I stumbled across a penny and a nickel that seem like they have to be mint errors. I only have pictures of the penny (accidentally re-rolled the nickel; I'll dig for it if someone says that the penny is worth anything). It's the little "bleb" to the right of the 7. It's raised and appears to be made of the same material as the coin. Is this an error? Is there a name for it so I can compare it to similar coins on Ebay (if it's even collectible)? Also, like I said, I sometimes find slightly off-centered coins. I figured that they don't have much collector value unless some part of the coin is missing. Am I correct in assuming this? Early thanks for any help! This community is awesome!
Looks like a die chip. It is technically a "mint error", but realistically, it's not worth more than face value, IMHO. But if you think it's neat, by all means keep it! :thumb:
Off centers are very common. Not much demand for them since they're so easy to find. I toss them back into circulation.
