Is this an error?

    My son found this quarter and was wondering if it's a mis-strike or error. I uploaded two photos of the coin's front and back. Thanks!

    Welcome to the neighborhood.

    That is what we lovingly call Post Mint Damage (PMD) and the coin is only worth face value.

    By the way, the "front" of the coin (heads side) is called the obverse, and the "back" of the coin (tails side) is called the reverse.

    Just someone messin' with the coin... keep it (I usually keep any defaced coins I find) or spend it. Welcome to the forum!
