Weird lightly etched circle just inside of rim of 1979 d Quarter. This etched in circle has caused a line to be across the mint "D" and almost lightly through all....??? Thank you. Jane
Welcome to CT Jessiejane! Not an error. Rolling machine damage. When coins are rolled by machine, the coins on each end may be scratched by the paper crimper as it turns the roll.
I concur. The metal crimper has made contact with the face of the coin and as the machine turned the roll, it scratched the surface. PMD It's pretty common even in new rolls from the mint.
