Howdy y'all! I have enjoyed this website for years and have finally decided to make my own profile as I have a question about this coin I found in change. I do not have a degree in taking pictures of coins, but I tried my best with what I had. If you look closely, you will see that the dime is REVERSE imprinted on the nickel. I wonder if maybe a dime got mixed in with the nickels and got whammed between the die and nickel blank. The reverse of the nickel has puzzled me though. Anyhow, I appreciate your expert opinions.
Looks like someone placed it in a vice and pressed a dime on it. Notice that the impression is backwards. Welcome to CT.
I agree.. Incused and backwards. Altered after leaving the US mint. Notba Dime struck on Nickel. Not a mint error of any kind. http://www.error-ref.com/squeeze-job-or-vice-job-or-garage-job/ - Mr.Ed (Specializing in collecting errors since 1985)
First, welcome to the neighborhood @Joshua Prowant ! As the others have indicated, the backward print is a giveaway, but it is also impossible that a dime could have accidentally fallen into the coining chamber with a nickel since, in this case, the nickel is badly damaged on the reverse. ~ Chris
Anytime you see letters or numbers on a coin that are backwards you can bet it was done in a vise. Not a Mint error but definitely damaged. Welcome to CT.
Thank you for your replies. I thought that it was probably a PMD coin, but hey, Why not get a second opinion? Again, thanks for your time.
