Hello, New to the forum. I have a coin collection I received from my great grandfather when I was kid, which I added to as a kid, but then it got stored away at my dad's house for the last 20 years. Now my kid is 5, I went and retrieved it to get him some of the coin set folders so he could look through coins and start getting interested in it like I was as a kid so I can pass off the collection to him as he gets older. I forgot about this coin that was in the set, and tried finding similar real errors or modified coins similar to this one but came up empty, so though I would post it and see what others thought. Thank you for any insight you may be able to provide.
LOL, thanks, I had a hard time picturing what would actually make it that shape. In the binder it stays partially filling the 1862 date. I think its the lighting, they look normal in person. Thank you both for looking.
Welcome to CT. I hope your son will carry on as a collector. It appears to me that someone took a hammer to that coin. PMD, post mint damage, not an error.
I'm sure it's your lighting, I've had the issue, too. Anywho, just FYI, they usually made these round. Oh, lol...
