Is this an error? 1955-D Cent

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by coincollector_9, Nov 13, 2011.

  1. I found this while looking through some wheat penny rolls. To me it looks like a small broadstrike, but can anyone tell me what error this is, if an error at all? Please enlarge the photos and compare it to another picture I took of another 1955-D wheat penny.
The pictures on top show the regular penny.

that coin is a former lucky penny, the type with the aluminum collar around it.The reason the rim looks like that is that the aluminum collar is crimped onto the cent. Post mint damage.

  4. Thank you. :) I did not know that people did that and thought it looked like an error.

Yep, that coin was encased. Look at the bright side, now you know what those look like. :)

  6. I have several coins saved that I found in rolls/lots that I have no way of knowing if they are real errors or simply damaged. I am not that good at telling them apart and am always looking to find out what they are. Now I can cross off one more. :)
