Is this a variation of a Cud or Lamination Error?

Here's a 1963 P penny. It does not appear to be due to rim damage at all. It's above the surface, and I can't find what this is. It looks like a lamination error coming from the rim, but I'm unsure. Unless this is a type of cud, since I see a lot of those referenced on the rim... but I don't think I've seen any that looks like this so far.

    Thanks in advance!

My gut feeling is delamination.... But I must admit, this is a new one to me.

Nice photo, I hope Mike Diamond finds his way to this.

I would get some photos of the whole obverse and reverse, someone is going to ask for them.... :)

The area in question extends further to the left above O in GOD, and skips a bit all the way to the last T in TRUST.

I think that part of Lincoln's head is missing! Is that just PMD or lamination?

EDIT: I think that's just the hazy thing on the coin causing it to look like that lol. I looked at the second pic first before the actual coin... so never mind about the missing head part.

I hope Mike will chime in, too. It looks like it might be some form of die deterioration.

Your comment about the possibility of being a variation of a cud gave me a chuckle. (No offense intended.) Is a flat tire a variation of an inflated tire?

Good point lol, I didn't know what to call that.

It's definitely more of a "tear" and nowhere near a blob.

Forgive me, I'm a newbie at this and I don't know how to create a new thread--this is the closest one (I think). I'm curious if you all can say easily whether this is damage or a lamination error. My first guess is damage, but it's so weird-looking I thought I'd ask you all. Feel free to just tell me to get a different thread--but then tell me how to....lol

    Thanks,
    Natalie

  11. If you go to forums then click on error coins for example then you will see to the right post a new thread. hope that helps. I also have a few like this and am curious of this kind of error.
