is this a struck thru 1956 d penny

    No, it's damage. Notice how the reverse areas opposite the dents are flat. That's a Characteristic of a post mint heavy hit. The date was probably flattened by the same event that left the dents

    It's hard to tell. The coin has been in circulation for (maybe) 60+ years. The date is smashed and part of the mintmark, too. It's possible that the indentations are nothing more than PMD that has been worn down somewhat through time. ~ Chris

    The date area, damage, but the other looks like lamination. @paddyman98 what say you?
