Founds this while going through some BWR, and ran across this, it's pretty slick and doesn't look dirty, in fact, it looks pretty nice but it's just really dark.
Can’t tell…try throwing some light on and post better pix. You could also maybe tell us where on the coin you see the strike through.
Some 1958 and 1959 business strike nickels were subjected to more heat than required during the annealing process, resulting in dark surface to the metal

Sulfur ( especially) with high heat produces NiS which deposits as a blackish color that is quite protective. Often used by military for protection against rusting, etc. I would love the finish on a vehicle. Jim
