    Hello all,

Any help appreciated in identifying this coin... It is about the size of a US nickel.

First - give the size (in millimeters!) and scans/photos of both sides of the coin. Crop the photos so the coin fills most of the image!

    Here is the other side

I scanned the other side and cropped it.
Do you want a higher res?

    The coin measures 22 mm.

A nice, genuine bronze of Akragas in Sicily.

    Akragas, Sicily
    275-250 BC
Obv: laureate head of Apollo r.
    Rev: two eagles on hare
    references: SNG ANS 1132. Calciati I, 217, 134. SNG München 185

Not a cheap coin, I'd say. Easily around $100.

    simonwpb,

If you don't mind my asking, how did you come across this coin? Did you find it? This is just a guess based on the fact that you didn't know what it was.

    See my post here

The coin was in a collection of mostly British coins that my grandmother collected in England post-WW2. There are a few asian and european coins in there as well, although this appears to be the only ancient one. I am new to the hobby and in the process of sorting out the coins so I can better display and preserve them.

Thanks for the link. What a great story with the collection your grandmother left you! What a treasure....
