Hi there... not sure if this is the right way to post this, and I apologize if it is..
I got this 2015 D nickel the other day and it almost feels fake. The corners are sharp and the middle doesn't seem to be stamped all the way.
It's on the left while on the right is just a regualar 2015 D nickel. Anyone know what the problem is with this nickel? 20181104_212304.jpg 20181104_212221.jpg 20181104_212408.jpg 20181104_212612.jpg

@Lindsey Opp, do you think someone faked it? Like a counterfeit nickel-maker? Lol. It's just damaged. :(

Not a Mint Error. Your attribution is incorrect.
That didn't occur at the US Mint
It's a real damaged Nickel that happened after it left the Mint

What's very strange to me is the size of it.. its a smaller circle and has a fatter ring around. So how can one shrink a nickel. And fatten the outer ring? Is it magical nickelry?

Could it be a die cap?

I thought it was fake because of the way I found it... I was turning in all my unwanted coins at one of those coinstar-like sorting machines. I had all pennies since that is my preferred coin roll searching coin. I heard a couple get thrown back in the slot that the machine refused and when I grabbed mine, there was this nickel that someone had left. It is smaller than the regular nickel, with wider edges. Also it weighs on 3 different scales in between 4.8 and 4.9. So its lighter than the regular nickels. I'm not a nickel connoisseur so after some research, i believe it is a capped die coin. What steps do I take next? Send it in to be graded? I dont believe it is damaged after leaving the mint because the words are in tact and how could someone make it look like a bottle cap without damaging the outer words. This pic shows it a little better in comparison.. 20181104_220107.jpg

Lightly tapping a coin repeatedly around the edge will make it look like this. It is just damaged.
