I bought this 1986 ASE a few years ago and as I was contemplating getting rid of it I noticed something. At the end of the ray closest to Walking Liberty there appears to be a piece of metal strand. It is graded PR69 UCam by NGC and I'm not sure how they'd miss something like that on the obverse. Any thoughts? Any thoughts? Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Very nice. More than likely, it's a struck through piece of thread. I'd hang onto that Baby!! And it has an error label for missing it.
Would there be any sort of premium for it? I can't imagine it'd be worth regrading to get the attribution. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
Yes, a nice little premium would go with it. I would not resubmit for attribution nor would I send back to them to correct. I'd leave as is. The strike through is obvious and not noting it on the label makes the grading an error label.
Looks like thread or lint to me too. I would discount it as an imperfection rather than raise it as an error. But that's just me.
I'm not sure they really missed it. If it was not submitted with a notation and fees for attribution I would think they would just straight grade it. I did get lucky years ago with a submission to ICG for a lot of Ike's that ended up being "peg legs" and partial "peg legs". They attributed the variety anyways at no cost. They even accepted the coins in their original holders and broke them open for me. There was a polite note attached to not submit this way again.
I've never actually submitted coins for grading so I didn't know if they attributed obvious errors or if you need to request it regardless. I have not been able to find any other examples comparable to this. Debating whether or not to sell, there are some holes to fill in my 19th century type set. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
