Is this a light memorial strike on the obverse?

    Welcome to CT!!

    Great Find!!

What you have there is, as Kentucky says, a clashed die error. This one is commonly known as a "Jail" cent because it looks like Lincoln is behind bars. And yes those "Bars" are made from the bays on the memorial on reverse.

If I understand it correctly, the die's clashed together causing part of the reverse to transfer to the obverse die. Your coin and others was then minted using this obverse die.

you can find out more about this kind of error here

    Hope that helps...Mont

That's a cool clash. It would be cool to see full pics of obv. and reverse. Maybe there is more evidence of the clash.

It looks like it is struck slightly off center as well. When I saw it was 1999 I was hoping it was a Wide AM as well. WIN_20170417_09_35_16_Pro.jpg WIN_20170417_09_36_17_Pro.jpg

Could be the lighting of the picture, but it looks like there are two clashes that occurred. The other just North and West. If it did clash twice, there may be indications of a counter clash.

I looked closer and could see some faint lines in that area. They were not the right size for the memorial. Possibly a fingerprint??
