Can anyone tell me? I did the ear test by dropping pennies and listening for what sound they make when hitting the ground& it made the high pitched melodious sound that the rare small date penny is supposed to make. It weighs 3.1 g on my digital scale

    Welcome to CT
Your coin appears to be a large date the sound that you are taking about is the differences between a zinc and copper. Here's a pic so you can see the difference. IMO

there were also millions of small and large date cents that weigh both. And if you heard that you can make money by finding one well it has to be a D mint small date weighing 3.1 and there is only 1 known to exist !!!

Thank you all for the cool info this subject brought up, learning alot. This is the first I've heard about the drop test for copper identification. Curious though, Doesn't that damage the coin or at the very least put it at risk of damage?

Dropping coins is pure "YouTube-o-mania". You never have to drop one to identify it. Stay away from youtube for coins. Go to lincolncentresource.com to get real info.
