Well considering it's an auction with an unknown ending price it's a bit hard to determine whether it would be a good buy or not.

No, there are spots on the coin.

As a first strike, plus a 70, it will go for a good premium.

Does First strike really make a difference?

To some - yes. To me - no. It's not like the first Corvette off of the assembly line!

I see them Buy It Now for around that price, if not cheaper in some cases.

If you like it, can afford it, then by all means place your highest bid. Beyond that, not knowing the final price, nor the future, I'd can't really call either way.

I personally divested myself of my anniversary ASE sets and did it at a good time in the market. But, I might be kicking myself in the future when they are going for 10K a piece and nobody saw it coming ;)

At least I kept some burnished ones so I should be ok though!

If you want to buy modern coins buy them raw in ogp. Exact same coin much less money.

To me they are worth about $40, but I'm not your typical US collector.

I believe these coins sold for $148 per set from the U.S. Mint. If it stays at the current price, then it might not be a bad deal. You'll spend over $50 get your coins graded.

Which would you enjoy more? The coin or the 225 bucks? If the former, then it would be a good buy for YOU to make...if the later, then it would be a foolish one.

And the answer is the same regardless of the final price. Wise or foolish depends on YOUR desires.

For me, unspotted coins in plain old MS/PR69 holders are preferred. They're far less expensive, essentially of identical quality to the 70s, and I collect coins, not labels. Also, coins graded 70 today are no less likely to develop spots than those graded 69, so even if I wanted to buy coins is 70 holders, I'd wait a few years.

    But again, that's just me.
