no - but very close the right side of the middle band is the problem see this write up http://www2.mrbrklyn.com/mercs.html
Nice coin, but unfortunately not full bands. I have a similar one that I'm not sure about. http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww227/sambot12/DSCF0069-1.jpg Yours is obviously a nicer coin.
Oh, you know, I hate to be the odd-man-out, but I've seen worse designated Full Bands by, I'll say, PCGS. In fact, see it for yourself, take a look at these pics. These are obviously Roosevelt reverses, but look at the bottom band on the Full Bands specimen. Note the separation looks as "weak" as on your middle band. What's the date of your coin? I'll say, while they may not like to publish it, the TPGs take that into consideration. I'll say yours has a shot. If you could submit it, I think you should.
It isn't mine. Just some copyright infringement I took the liberty of off Heritage. Copied these to file several years ago when I was trying to determine the same question, "How do they do it in practice?" I can read their glossary, but that's just so much "talk." I've got more on the issue, someplace, but gotsta catch some zzz's, now.
check the grading standards for both PCGS and NGC for full bands on a Mercury. If I remember correctly, for NGC all 3 bands need to be clear whereas for PCGS only 2 of them need to be....... Smaugy
Eddie there is no comparison for the pics you posted. Mercs are Full Bands, Roosies are Full Torch - each has different criteria for the designation. And yes, NGC and PCGS both have different criteria for each of them with NGC being much tougher in each case.
I did warn you guys I had more in my files; here's some more of it... PCGS to Add ''Full Bands'' Designation for Roosevelt Dimes - March 21, 2003 http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article3795.chtml “Full Bands” - Term applied to Mercury (Winged Liberty Head) dimes when the central band is fully separated (FB). There can be no disturbance of the separation. Also applicable to Roosevelt dimes that display full separation in both the upper and lower pair of crossbands on the torch.
Thanks for your opinions guys. The coin in question was a 1945-S micro S mercury dime in a old green PCGS holder graded MS65. I was considering buying it and resubmitting it to hope for a MS65 FB grade as there is a $600 price difference between the two. I decided to play it safe though and hold off on the purchase.
OK now this is all your fault, mrbrklyn. Being a Mercury collector, 12 full sets and over 3,000 of them, I just had to go to that web site you recommended. As soon as I saw those I had to print that out. Great for my Mercury Dime collection. So as my printer started to print, the first pages suddenly started to go lighter and lighter. So I stopped and replaced the black cartridge and with my printer that is not easy. Restarted the printing and all the Mercury Dimes turned Green. So that's how they look with PVC on them. So stopped again. Now had to replace the color cartridge. That is even worse than the B&W one. Started to print again but the screen stated cartridges must be aligned first so clicked on go for it or something like that. Finally after several hours of this nonsence I started the printing again only to find out that when I put in the new cartridges I removed the paper so had to stop, put the paper back in and start printing again. By now I think I hate Mercury Dimes. And it's all your fault.:smile:smile
Well Carl I don't know what to do about your Merc fettish but I can suggest, if you have a few extra dollar, a HP Color Laserjet 2500 series. It kicks @$$ for about $300 and the cartriges last a long time http://www.google.com/products/cata...&ie=UTF-8&cid=15544484069010956560#ps-sellers Ruben
