Not my area. Compared to images I looked at online, it looks OK except the 0 in the date is not lined up correctly. But I don't know how they minted their coins.
Based on the XXIV coin you posted, I think it looks ok too... Both have the same die crack on the left side of rev, and both have the small tail under the 7... The 0 does look a little out of line on mine.
There have been some really good fakes of this coin in recent years, complete with matching die cracks and all. Your coin looks good to me, but it's one that needs to be authenticated in hand by a specialist due to what I mentioned in the first sentence
Thanks, I thinking about sending this one in for grading. It appears to be silver, and the weight is about right at 24.92g
Rarer and worth more than I thought. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...5-1867-xxi-1870-xxv-cuid-1168743-duid-1596532 VF-25?
I think it's VF details, due to fairly strong dings around the rim and fields. Also possible environmental damage. Might get a straight grade, but even so as a straight graded VF, probably still not worth grading.
Based on the photos I think XF is a stretch, but you never know Not a big value difference all things considered
I agree. Genuine coin, XF details. Maybe technically more like VF30-35, but but I predict they'd probably round up to "XF details" but zap it as a "problem" coin. Not bad looking, despite the minor problems. I'm not sure I'd bother submitting it. The surface issues and the rim nicks are almost certain to result in a "details" grade. But it's a handsome coin otherwise.
Stabbing could be an educational exercise, and doesn't have to be financially 'worth' it if you have other motives. Plus, if you DO ever sell it then the counterfeit concern can be allayed. If you send in with a group of coins that are otherwise getting graded and use the discount tier it's not too pricey for the entertainment value you might be getting. That's what I keep telling myself whenever I have pocket change (or otherwise low value stuff) that I'm sending in for a grading event anyway.
Don't stab your coins. Slab 'em if you like. @Stork might wanna stab her smartphone right about now, though. Don'tcha just love autocorrect? Yesterday an autocorrect glitch had me announcing to my wife that I am "bi", which was news to her... not to mention me.
Autocorrect strikes again. Yes, sLabbing! As for your autocorrect...yikes! Hopefully your wife laughed .
