Nope...the ear took a hit. Not a doubled die.

Wondering what year is this coin? I have a 1997 that looks exactly like this.

If you search on google you will find many different types of the double ear. I'm not an expert but I don't see how your coin could of been hit. Like I said not an expert, but it looks as good as all the double ears I have seen while searching the internet. See if you can find a local coin store and ask them. good luck!!

I canctell you that 99% of local coin shops will not be ale to give you a definitive answer, as they don't deal with the nitty-gritty details of die varieties.
One way to tell if it is a true doubled die is to "take away" the doubled part. Does the design seem smaller? A doubled die will "add" to the design rather than take away from it. If you remove the doubled part of the ear on this coin, the ear will appear smaller than it should. Thus, it is not a doubled die.
    Keep up the hunt!

I agree it is not a doubled ear variety, but my thought is more of a deteriorated die myself.
