Is this a Double Die?

    I was just looking at some pocket change and found this. Is that doubling in "quarter." You will have to view the photo full size and zoom in to see it. Thank you in advance.

    I agree.

    For future reference if you take your photos of coins straight on rather than at an angle. That way you can get the entire coin in focus rather than just part of it.

    Thanks for the advice. I know it would have been better to take the picture directly above the coin, but I just took a quick picture to post and was using artificial light at a weird angle. Thank you everyone for straightening things out.

    Seach the threads here for "strike doubling", "machine doubling", etc. Some of the threads have good explanations of how strike doubling (aka machine doubling) occurs and how it differs from true die doubling.

    The correct nomenclature is doubED die since hub doubling usually only occurs on single die (obverse or reverse) used to strike a coin.
