Cant put my finger on it but the look feels a bit off, mainly the toning. However I was wondering if more experienced members could look and chime in, and educate us on what they see and dont see?
FWIW the other coins posted by this seller appear genuine, so I don't think this is a malicious seller.

The toning does look suspicious. So do the fat CC letters in the mintmark, though I'm not fully up to speed on that particular issue, so take my suspicion there with some suspicion. Just a gut feeling.

The more I look at it, the more the lettering appears "off". ONE DOLLAR looks a bit odd, as well. I'm betting it's a Chinese counterfeit but am not qualified enough personally to say for sure.

When in doubt let your conscience be your guide. When in doubt follow your intuition. When in double follow your wife's, parent's, self's advice. Look how many you have to blame before you get to yourself.

That toning can exist on legitimate Morgans, but it's super-common on modern Chinese fakes. The marshmallow stars on the obverse are another story (never seen those on a legit Morgan).

I'm not sure I like the looks of his other two, either; both damaged, yeah, but I can't confidently say whether they started out real or fake. I don't like the look of the damaged areas on the 1878-CC, but it might just be crud accumulating in the recesses, not exposed base metal.

Just on the obverse I see problems with uniformity in the denticles all the way around, stars and lettering in the legend. The tone / color is hard to tell through the pic but immediate vibe is 'off'. I'd pass on this one.

I know absolutely nothing about Morgan's, but I won't spend someone else money on that coin. ;)
Besides, did y'all see the current bid!! It's a $6.66! Bad sign. :dead:

Their 1885-CC has the same look. They both have the same scratch across the eagle's breast. Run Forrest, run!

Similar to the one someone posted on CU; I posted this image of the reverse of the '85-CC with the marks common to the Chinese CC fakes along with a 2nd one reported in my Group last night.

As @KBBPLL stated both this seller's '84 and '85 CC's were identical and both were reported and removed...

It now has the infamous “orange hoodie.”

The black dot/hole on the 5th feather down on the left was also on both seller's coins. The seller was polite in responding to me (unlike the usual angry combative replies), said they bought them a few weeks ago, weight and diameter were accurate and not magnetic.

This reminds me of a question I meant to ask but forgot - I assume these higher quality fakes are proper silver. Is that correct?

Perhaps @Jack D. Young can answer that. I've seen "silver" ones advertised on the Chinese site in the past for substantially more than the $2 ones, but would you trust that they're actually silver? My impression (I could be wrong) is that they make the base metal ones thicker so that the weight and diameter are accurate.

They are made of “Chinese silver,” which probably is not as durable as German silver. We can’t test that because these counterfeits only circulate from scammers to their victims.

British 50% silver from 1920-1946 make great cheap stock for Chinese fakes.
