I’m new on this site and am trying to learn about some coins I have. I appreciate any education I can get regarding my posts. I’m not sure how to classify this coin or if it’s worth more than ten cents. I’ve seen some other posts where a form of acid removed the cladding, but those coins showed a lot less detail. However, I know it’s rare to have so little cladding in both sides of a coin. Thanks for any feedback.
Clad coins and Nickels are composed of Cupro-Nickel. The copper will tone when exposed to the elements. Here are examples of many of my metal detected environmental exposure toning damaged coins.
As stated above, what you are seeing is just discoloration from who-know-what, called environmental damage, so not worth more than face value, nor collectable. Welcome to CoinTalk. Looking forward to additional posts and questions from you. This site is great for new and old collectors. If you need help, just ask here and a bunch of us will try our best to help. Good luck.
