Is this a 1936 Lincoln DDO (Type 2 perhaps), and if so what's it possibly worth?

    Hi there... new here to the forum. I recently went digging through my father's old lincoln wheat penny collection, and found a few that could be valuable. This one to me is very odd - the date is not very sharp and has a "smashed" look to it, especially the "6". Under magnification there is a slight doubling on the lower loop of the "6" and right side of the "9", as seen in picture 2. Also, I noticed that the last "T" in Trust is very smashed, and there is possible doubling on the "O" and "D" in God, in my opinion.

    What do you guys think? I was reading from an online resource that it could be a DDO Type 2, which is harder to find than a Type 1. It says that doubling is primarily on the date (as in my case), and some doubling can be seen on Liberty and Trust. Other than the smashed "T", I can't see any doubling on these other letters, so this is why I'm not 100% sure this is a Doubled Die Obverse.

    Can you please help? I checked the PCGS price guide and it only lists value on the Type 1, which is $350 for an XF-40. I believe this is closer to an AU-50, am I correct? Would this be worth sending in to get graded?

    Thanks for the help!

    okay in order:
    #1: I don't believe that it is the DDO;
    #2: Post mint damge;
    #3: IN either case it is damaged and only ANACS would slab it -- altho I believe that PCGS may give it a 'genuine' lable,

    #4: see #1.

    Hey there... thanks for your info. I sure hope you're wrong, though. :)

    Any other opinions out there before I rule this out? When you say damaged are you referring to the smashed lettering, the scratches on the obverse side, or the spot on the reverse?

    Thanks...

    As an addendum, that coin would be XF at best and that is before the scratches and blob on the reverse. My guess is that if that were net graded, it would come up with fine or maybe even a VG.

    I do not think it is a DDO or an error on any kind. Most likely scratched and chipped over the years from so much handling.

    you know, I also think it looks like it has very porous surfaces. that can sometimes give it a DD look, which I have seen before.

    You need to enter the date and check the doubled die box to see the 7 different 1936P Doubled dies. The first 3 are the most valuable, but few or none have collected all. No, it is not a doubled die, but don't let it stop you from looking :)

    Is that the beginning of a hole that was sealed back up again on the reverse?

    yeah i saw that too. it looks like a filled hole on the back, but on the front where the imprint of the "hole" should be, you can still see detail in lincoln's hair, plus the design being pressed out a little.

    Hey, thanks for all the help. I took the coin to a couple dealers today and they both dismissed it as a non-DDO coin. Just like you guys said, it probably has post mint damage. Oh well! I've got a few others that might make up for it - a 1911-S, 1912-D and 1870 indian head I recently found in my collection.
