I got lucky when I ordered some $5 gold coins from a magazine. I ended up with 10 1999 gold eagles. 8 were with the "w" (known as mint error coins) and 2 were not. One "w" coin was much different than the others. It has stars missing around the front of the obverse and also other errors. Obviously the errors are from a worn out die but I have not seen or heard of any other of these coins with this same "errors". PCGS has graded this coin ms67. I'm hoping I have something unique on a unique coin. Here are some pics. Anybody have some observations? http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/vtown98/IMG_1341.jpg http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/vtown98/IMG_1340.jpg http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/vtown98/IMG_1339.jpg http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/vtown98/IMG_1338.jpg http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/vtown98/IMG_1337.jpg http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/vtown98/IMG_1336.jpg http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/vtown98/IMG_1335.jpg
Yes, those are them. I suggest you let your really smart and amazingly good looking friend submit them to PCGS for you.
It looks to be a worn die to me too. That wouldn't give it any more value because if there is one coin struck with worn dies, there will certainly be more. So it wouldn't be a unique coin.
