No, this a direct hit from the reeding of another like coin.

Does it increase the value of the coin?

No actually it is damage, so it still worth a quarter.

I'm sorry to steal this conversation like this, but I'm new. Ive been searching for weeks how to come up with answers for a 1968 Liberty error quarter that I have discovered. It seems to have been stamped onto another coin, like the 1970 Liberty quarter that was found stamped onto a 1941 Canadian quarter/planchette. This coin has a wreath like the Liberty quarter, yet it runs a ways up the eagles wing and has much bigger leaves. It is very distinguishable. The other feature that is easy to see are lines that traverse the full width of the coin and make what appears to be a star... but try as I have, I'm at a loss at what kind of coin it must be. Can anyone help me with this?

Only with photos can we be of any help my friend. Nice, clear direct overhead shots.

If you bought a brand new car and one of the employees at the dealership accidentally (or otherwise) backed another car into it, would the dent increase the value of your car?

I know, I'm very sorry. I'm so desperate. But we'll put. I'll try to upload a picture for you if I have this figured out right.

I know it's a bad picture. I'm still trying to learn. But I hope you can at least get an idea of what I'm describing from this. I do have more...

I can't tell anything from that photo. It appears that you are using only one light source at about 6 o'clock. Try using two light sources....one at 10 o'clock and one at 2 o'clock....placing them at 45 degree angles to the subject. That way, with the camera directly over the subject, the light will bounce away from the lens.

Also, you need to adjust the white balance to correspond to the type of lighting you are using....tungsten, fluorescent, etc. That should eliminate the gold tone.

Crop out the extraneous background before enlarging the image.

And any additional input on the correct way to capture coins on camera. I have a couple more big error coin discovories, two involving State quarters. And one is about as big as this one would be, so Im just trying it out first.

I still don't see anything on this coin other than the fact that it might be a very slight misaligned die but I would need to see the obverse, too, because it could be a very slight off-center strike.

Sorry, that one Liberty quarter image is from a different quarter I think. I also sent pictures highlighting the noticeable lines that are visible that are not consistent with a 1968 Liberty quarter. Just to show anyone what I'm seeing.

I know what you're saying Chris, but it's not a misaligned die or off-center. I will try to take some pics like you told me and then hopefully you will be able to see all the additional stamp(?) that is not consistent with the Liberty quarter. Thank you so much for your time and patience. And your help. This is what I was looking for.
