Hi All. I have inherited this 1921 US Dollar, marked with an S, above the D & O. Using google, I only seem able to find Silver Dollars, so why does this one look like it is either gold, or gold plated ? As far as I can tell, the plastic case has never been opened. Any information will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance.
Most likely a modern imitation. I think Ive seen similar ones being sold on TV before....or it could just be a real one that's been ruined by gold plating. There are a few places selling real ones like that, sadly.
I can see dings and bag marks under that gold plating. It's a real silver dollar that was polished or "whizzed" then plated as a gimmick.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What they both said My bet is that there is a zero percent chance it is gold. *Maybe* gold-plated. It has been "opened" at some point because it is an "air-tite" type container. They don't come from the U.S. Mint that way.
Found this in 1 search... http://www.terapeak.com/worth/1921-...-coins-no-reserve-free-shipping/161115819269/
Great responses, I never thought to google, gold plated, I thought gold would have covered the lot, but it does not, evidently. Ah well, just have to keep buying the lottery tickets. Thanks for all your help
Forget the lottery tickets and buy more morgans or silver eagles. A much better use of extra pocket money
