Is this 1877 IHC AG or G?

I had this 1877 IHC recorded as AG, but I have recently seen similar rims on one in ANACs and 1 in PCGS that were graded G. What do you think? Yes, there is a carbon/corrosion spot on the rev.

    Thanks

I agree with a G from TPGs, though it is technically an AG for details. I have looked at these coins before in top tier slabs and have seen G-4s with less details. I dont know if that spot on the reverse would affect it.

don't know much about the series other than the 77 is the key. It looks G to me.

Looks nice jim, I think I see a little feather detail and maybe a partial letter or two of Liberty. Think it got a great shot at G.

    I see it as G.
Letters still separate from the rim.

    Jim,

I agree that technically it is an AG-03 due to the Obverse rim! However, most TPG's would give a bump up for Market Grade to a G-04 and it may be stretching it but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it come back with a G-06 grade.

    Thanks to all,

I appreciate the time you gave to look at it. I am of course happy you decided it could make a G. I Appreciate it. It is the only 1877 I will probably have. :smile

That's a Good coin all day to the TPGs. Quite frankly, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see it in a G 6 holder, or even (if the reverse didn't have that spot) a VG 8 holder. The TPGs are notorious for being liberal in grading this key date in particular.

Don't believe me? Take a look at this PCGS VG 8:

    http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1118&Lot_No=97

    Or at this larger group:

    http://coins.ha.com/common/search_r...ll&Ns=&Ntt=1877+vg8&x=0&y=0&Ntk=SI_Titles&&&&

The only thing that bothers me with the OP's coin is the reverse spot, and this could downgrade the coin and/or cause it to not be graded.

    All IMHO...Mike

I agree with Frank - that coin should market grade a G-4. (And TPGs market grade.)

That's a nice looking coin except for that reverse spot. I would be happy to own it.

Mike I see what you mean, Some of the VG8 have less details. Yeah, the spot is not good. But it is hard to be disappointed with a key coin.:smile

You can always think of that spot like this -- it likely saved you a good bit of money, and it is on the reverse, after all. :)

    That's a nice coin, IMO.

    Congrats!

Def call it a G-4 and could see it coming back from one of the majors as a vg-8

PCGS has been quite liberal with 1877s.. technically it's an AG3+ I would think, but I would not be shocked if it even got in VG8 plastic.

I think it is a G-4 that would come back probably VG-8. Keys seem to get larger bumps than they should. Just my opinion.
