I noticed a little nub at the bottom of the 9 and the bottom loop of the second 8 also seems to have something showing too (harder to photograph). Thanks
I see what you referring to, but it almost looks like a die chip. I did not see anything in Rick Snows book that it might line up with.
Lots of repunched dates in 1898. And many are relatively minor. It would take an in-hand examination for me to maybe(?) ID the Snow variety. And the "little nub at the bottom of the 9" may be a die chip.
Many thanks to you both for your replies. I am just going to add photos that I took to try to show what I referenced in regard to the 2nd 8 bottom loop. Just b/c I spent some time trying to capture it
