Been working on my Indian Head Cent folder and getting down to the big boys 1872 and 1877 plus the "will never find one" 1856. However I have been talking to colleagues and the question has come up. Is there really a 69 over 68? Is it just a 68 over 68 ? Thoughts as to what the coin could really be ?
From a 20 year old forum on the "9/8" https://boards.ngccoin.com/topic/44241-indian-head-cent-expertise-requested-18698/
The discussion linked above seems to cover it. There are three listed on PCGS - two versions of 69/69 and one just "RPD" which appears to be only the 18 repunched. How old is the album?
The R.S. Yeoman Red Book has it listed as a 9 over a 9. If you can edit your title it may help to promote responses.
The definitive reference for Indian cent varieties can be found at this website here: https://indiancentvarieties.com/1869_varieties.html The web design is ancient and rudimentary, but the update log indicates it is well maintained. This website seems to indicate there is not an overdate here... but there are repunched dates.
