I would almost guarantee this coin to not be genuine that 4 looks obviously altered. But figure I will get your opinions.
To me, it honestly looks like a real 1914 cent that just got hit on the 4 - causing it to smush. Just my 2 cents.
Without seeing the reverse, I cannot assure you of much. However, I see nothing to tell me it is a fake. The 4 looks like it has been whacked and may have had a die chip on the bottom right, but I do not believe it has been altered.
Many thanks for your imput. That 4 just looked very strange to me. Here is a reverse pic if it helps. Thanks again!
Many thanks for that rlm! I know your the cent expert so I will certainly take your word for it. That 4 to me just looked suspect. I usually expect that on a rare coin if one of the important attributes looks funny most often it is fake.
TY, but from those pictures, that is far from a guarantee. If you have a dealer in you area that will work with you, I would strongly suggest you take it to him and certify it (even if genuine) assuming he also thinks it is real. Part of "working with you " means that he is not charging you $50 or something like that for certification.
You've probably heard this before...any key that is not in a trustworthy TPG slab is suspect. Really, why would anyone leave that much money on the table? If you've got a genuine key, like an '09-S or '14-D or '22 no-D, spend $50 to get it graded, and get your money back and more! Duh. I have owned many of these '14-D's. I have three now, including a 64RD and a VF for an album. The third has been called fake by PCGS. They are hard to sort out, especially when worn. If the OP owns the coin, get your answer by sending it for grading. If you're thinking about buying it raw, don't! If you're just on a rant....well, that's fun. Just don't buy the cent. Lance.
I agree with RLM, there's nothing that stands out, but using those pictures there's no "guarantee". I agree 100% with Lance too!
