Is the guy on this denarius supposed to be Geta?

After reading all your postings during the last months, I'm getting more and more interested in ancients, specially coins from Rome and Greece.

Now, about this one... The face looks like Geta's, but the inscription doesn't give you any obvious clues.

Regardless, I assume this is the poor fella killed in the arms of his mother, Julia Domna. I'm a right?

    Thanks! :D

My first thought was of Geta, but the inscription suggests Caracalla---his brother and murderer---and the reverse I think depicts the Emperor standing next to a trophy of shield and arms....

The only way to be sure, besides being an 'expert' on coins of the Severans (Which Doug Smith probably is) is to check through the list on wildwinds.com and the RIC listings and photos......

I'm sure someone will log on and answer your question unequivocally.
