Hi All A bit random - I dont mean the coin they look through, I mean the generic treasure coin they have - Is this a cast of a real ancient coin? Thank you! Tyler
It is an imitation of old Spanish silver coins minted in South America. See for example this 8 reales coin minted in Potosi, Bolivia.
The Goonies coin from the 1985 film: Goonies movie prop coin The coin appears to imitate the reverse of a coin of England's Elizabeth I (1558-1603). A coin of England's Queen Elizabeth I: England Elizabeth I sixpence 1561 Silver, 27 mm 2.75 gm Obverse: Crowned Elizabeth facing left with a rose behind her head ELIZABETH D G ANG FR ET HI REGINA followed by a arrow mintmark (Elizabeth by the Grace of God, England, France and Ireland, Queen) Reverse: Shield with arms (English lions and French fleurs-de-lis) and long cross POSVI DEV ADIVTOREM MEV (I have made God my Helper) Struck: London Tower Mint
Yea, agree with @Victor_Clark In terms of the original coin posted in this thread, it's a fantasy coin based on the gold escudos minted by Spain in their American colonies, and in Spain. Here is mine: Description: Seville, Spain, gold cob 2 escudos. Philip (1556 to 1598) II or Philip III (1598 to 1621), assayer and mintmark not visible. Full cross. Shield crudely struck. 6.74g It's a highly sought after coin.
