Is something wrong with one of the mint marks???

    Bored so started looking at Wheat Ears. Ran across this D mint mark that just looks to high. Finally found another 1944 D and the D is lower. Is one right and one wrong. I don't know, Help!!! Please. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg The high one looks a little larger also.

    They were hand punched in the dies back then. I have seen mintmarks that almost were touching the date.

    Mintmarks weren't incorporated into the dies until the early 90's. As @Randy Abercrombie said, they were hand-punched into the dies prior to that.

    If you want to see lots of examples of mintmarks that are "all over the place", look at Kennedy half dollars from the 70's.
