I have been interested in the state quarters, but dont have the money for proof sets. Is it worth it to collect the state quarters out of circulation?

What does "worth it" mean to you? If looking for something that could increase in value, then the answer is no. However, if this is something you will enjoy doing, then it's absolutely worth it. How could it not considering there is a zero above-face premium? All depends on what you want to do and what you like.

    Hello jacktj,

    Welcome to the CoinTalk forum.

Booksb4coins provided a good answer to your question. I personally collected the state quarters from circulation & filled a USA map designed to hold the coins. I'm very happy with the collection. All the coins are basically mint state because I collected them as the coins were issued. You can basically do the same thing today (but you will probably need to look through many quarters to find them all in mint state).
