hey everyone my mom gave me a 1974 eisenhower dollar its not in any sort of great shape but she thought I'd like it for my animals of the world collection. Anyways I was wondering is it silver or what??:smile
The Ikes minted in Denver were all clad. The outer layer is 75% nickel, 25% copper, and the inner core is 100% copper.
hmm very interesting have to make a note on the back about that b4 i put it into the binder with the rest
Yes, weigh it. A copper nickel clad will weigh 22.68 grams +/- .9 grams. The 40% silver ones weigh 24.59 grams +/- .98 grams. There is a slight overlap between the maximum possible clad weight and the minimum 40% silver weight. If you had a known copper nickel clad coin such as a US quarter or dime after 1964 yo could also use the tissue test. Put the copper nickel clad coin and the Ike dollar side by side and lay a single layer of tissue paper over them. As seen through the tissue the copper nickel coin will be dimly visible If the Ike loos the same way it is copper nickel. If it is MUCH whiter in color it is 40% silver. (a 90% silver coin would be even whiter still.)
alrighty well i'll bring it with me 2day at work we have a digital scale there and I can weigh it out to 4 decimal places
