Is it safe, fair and reasonable to say...

Briefly... I’m very new to this arena, only been doing it a few months. My mom inherited her parents coin collection consisting of over two hundred Canadian silver dimes, 50+ Canadian silver quarters, about 100 Canadian silver halves, 8 Walking Liberty halves, 5 Franklin halves a few silver Canadian and American silver dollars as well as a 20 ounce and a 5 ounce bar of silver. The cloth bag they were stored in is probably as old as the coins themselves. My brother and I will be inheriting next in line and now the coins are not just coins in a bag or jar but becoming a “collection”.

We had been collecting pennies for awhile and she has been hoarding Canadian dimes for years. This was my first duty, go through 1400$ worth of dimes and I looked at every one of them, needless to say, I got sick of looking at dimes, lol, but, I found out I had a passion for this and now I’m chronic. Everyday is, “ how can I get another ten rolls?”

Anyways, been going through the forums trying to become more knowledgeable. One thing I’ve noticed, error coin detection and confirmations. Before you all, my info came from, CoinsandCanada.com , eBay, Google and YouTube most notably with Couch Collectables. Is it safe to say that... “if it ain’t listed as an Error, Variety or Miscellaneous that it is a PMD coin and not the million dollar retirement coin we’re all searching for?”

Even with my limited knowledge and poor retention factor, getting old, I can readily assume that many of the error coin potentials presented to the group aren’t error coins and I wonder why sometimes some folks haven’t researched their coin more before presentation. Excitement is the answer to that! Heart rate increases, palms start to sweat and the mind wanders into the realm of how to spend your millions, lol.

Are there mint errors that haven’t been discovered? Probably. I got very excited at a 2018 Canadian quarter, early on in this investment of time and resource. I searched to see if it were true but, in Coins and Canada, there are zero listings for errors and varieties... is it safe to say there are none???

Anyways, I do see the ribbing and playful poking of people and have even come across a few comments looking for a fight and that kind of aggression is in every community I’ve ever been in. I just wanna have fun!

Yeah so, I guess I could have put this post in the Error Coin forum as I am supplying photos of that quarter I mentioned but, I am not confident that it is an error. It almost looks like someone was soldering on it but, just to make my point, it is included.

Have a great day. Tell those you love that you love them.

Ps. Sorry for the kruddy pics. My birth month is this one, maybe I’ll get a USB microscope to capture things better.

Nothing like a little dyslexia before my first pot of morning coffee. However... to be playfully disagreeable, if the $ or the cent sign were read like words, we would be saying, I have dollars twenty five and not, I have twenty five dollars. As well, on the plastic rolls, the amount comes first, not the symbol. But, just a crazy Canadian in your midst, pay me no never mind.

No. USUALLY it will be just Post Strike Damage, but every now and then something good and/or does pop up.

Yes. Think about it, EVERY variety was unknown until someone discovered it.

No, I'm sure there are errors and possibly varieties. It may just be that they aren't interested in them. Which strike me as odd because I have found that Canadian collectors tend to go gah gah over a lot minor little things that in the US wouldn't rate a passing glance. They have a hang up over coins with "dots" on them which are just chips in the chrome plating on the dies. In the US a coin with a die chip is just a "spender".

Looks like a run of the mill die chip. Also looks like you’re doing research and taking things seriously. Avoid YouTube. Try error-ref.com for all kinds of learning on errors. Ask and share anything you wish. Some of us like error coins more than others and we all like coins. :)

Run of the mill die chip? If it’s a mint error, cool but, it ain’t listed, so yeah. Do they name the discovery after the person who discovered it like comets, lol?

If a dot could buy me a car or a house then gah gah we canuckers are. I trade anyone my 1936 Canadian penny for theirs, if it’s got a dot.

No, because these are so common they don’t list them. Only cuds are listed.

The 36 dot cent is a completely different thing. That dot was deliberate and it wasn't an error.
