I just shipped my 18x 2021 Morgans and Peace Dollars to PCGS and I was asked if I wanted “signature on delivery” with my shipment. I said yes because I didn’t want to worry about being told that PCGS didn’t receive it when the tracking says “Delivered”. Is it okay that I did this? Will PCGS have someone to sign for it? Thanks!
Most the time when a company gets a high volume of accountable mail it is put into a "firm bundle" which is either delivered to or picked up by the company. One signature covers everything scanned into the firm bundle. So yes and no, there will be no individual signing for your particular package, but it will show that it was in the bundle signed for. So if your item is scanned into the bundle and the bundle is signed for that counts as proof of delivery.
In the old days mine were signed for. Haven’t submitted for over a year but the bundle thing sounds reasonable
I'm not sure how many they get daily, so they may just get signed for individually. But if they get several it will probably be done as a firm bundle.
Oh ok yeah I don’t have a problem with that. As long as they get it. I just didn’t want to have my package returned back to me because no one was there to sign it and then miss the cut-off date.
mine wasn't "signed for" and I asked why? I was told due to Covid signatures are no longer asked for.
Great point, I will say I’ve gotten hundreds of packages without the signature since Covid hit. I’ve wondered if Ebay sellers have been affected. Do they still require sig conf over $750??? Also, why would the USPS sell it when they know or should know they’re not going to do it.
Sure it’s fine but it doesn’t mean that PCGS will sign. I receive signature required packages all the time but I don’t sign for them. My carrier signs and leaves them in the mail box or on the porch. Why? Because my post office doesn’t want the carrier exposed to the virus so the carrier signs to keep people from handling that pen that is used on the scanning screen.
I printed a label for an item over $750 and eBay did say signature confirmation was needed to be covered under the seller protection policy. Why does USPS still sell it? Some places still ask for a signature. Otherwise, they still sell it because they can. It makes the person sending it feel more secure (even if it is not true) and the post office collects easy revenue.
Tbh I don’t really care about if they’re not able to sign it. I just don’t want my coins to be returned to me ungraded because there was no one there to sign for it. If they do sign for it that’s a bonus but I only added the “signature required” because I know whenever I buy coins from anywhere they make me sign for them so I figured I was supposed to use the signature required option. As long as it doesn’t screw me over I will be happy.
No one better be throwing my coins anywhere! I packaged them exactly as PCGS told me too. I even went and bought the 2.5” x 2.5” Mylar non-PVC flips even though it’s dumb since my coins are shipping in the US Mint provided capsules that all the 2021 Morgans & Peace Dollars came in inside the box. But I put the plastic capsules in the flips with labels of order number & line number just like they instructed. I also made sure to use rubber bands to keep all the same mint mark coins with each other. Then I wrapped them all in bubble wrap and taped them up tightly. But still..no one better be throwing my package anywhere.
In other words, the carrier will probably be the one to sign for them but you shouldn’t have any problems with delivery. There is a difference in delivering to a business and a home address.
My insurance requires a signature at delivery so I always use that option. I've sent several packages to PCGS in the last few months and the tracking always lists a 'signed for by' name once delivered.
Oh ok thanks. Yeah I just went through all that hassle to package and ship everything exactly like they wanted and filled out all the complicated forms and had to buy bubble wrap and rubber bands and Mylar flips and all that stuff so I could do it exactly like they said. It would be awful if they just sent it back to me without grading and having to do it all again. Especially since the cut off date is November 18th so if I screwed up and had to re-do it I would miss the date.
You're fine, its standard and no someone likely wont sign for the hundreds of packages a day but you're covered with the process. Basically every package they get has signature conformation thats standard
