I have gone to the bank in the past to get rolls of coins to search, but find it a pain to return the pile of coins I'm left with after searching them. Thinking it would be much easier to not only search bills, but to also return, exchange or simple spend the ones I have searched and decided not to keep. What do you guys ask for when going to the bank to get bills to search? What kind of bundles do bills come in?
With a limited budget, I have 1 strap(100 notes) of $1.00 notes I exchange. A brick is 10 straps. Between home and work and the surrounding area there are 39 various bank branches I go to. I usually visit one per day, more on the weekend. Some branches are open Sunday in various grocery stores. I'll ask for a new strap if they have them. Some banks get them on a regular basis, others rarely. I also see if they have any old notes that were turned in. Even with a minimum of $100.00 you can still find some keepers for your collection.
That's good to know, thanks! What are you doing with the left over $1.00 you have searched and don't keep?
Just researching bill straps and found this on wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currency_strap I see the $1 comes in different straps. Do you always just ask for a strap of $1 and they give you a "blue" $100.00 strap or do you specifically ask for a $100.00 strap of one dollar bills?
If I keep any notes from the strap, I replace them with ones from my wallet. I'll then exchange that strap for another one at a bank. Most banks have 100 note straps. Some banks keep their ones in straps of 50 and a couple I visit just use paperclips to hold them together in bundles of 25.
I search coin rolls and if none of those at my dump bank I buy singles, coins are much easier for me probably because I collect them and search a lot more of them, I search about 8 boxes, yes 20,000 penny's a week
Timewarp, do they remove the bills from a new strap and count them out for you to make sure it's correct or do they just give you a strap like they would a roll of coins? How about when you return a strap? I would guess they always count them out when your returning them. Thanks for the info...
