I hope its ok to post this. There was a lengthy thread on this coin on another forum which felt that it was indeed counterfiet. this coin was also looked at in hand by a deale that said it was fake

Ah yes, I would be the soul that purchased this coin. I didn't realize it at first, but it seemed funny to me. I brought the coin to several dealers and had threads from multiple forums discussing this........and all state counterfeit. I wouldnt have left a comment like that if I were not 100% sure and had discussed it with him earnestly beforehand. I asked him if I could send it back, and he said no. So I havent. The unbelieveable thing is the feedback that the dealer left me?!? How can he say I switched coins, as I never sent him anything back? He thinks because he's a "Powerseller" he can push people around. Purely retalitory. Anyways, here are links to the threads centering around this coin if you want more info.

    Hey Johnny,

Don't forget to tell Ebay/PayPal about the negative feedback the seller left and the FACT he has no basis for it, since the seller refused to allow you to send it back for a refund.

So what's his foundation for the feedback? Answer - to hide the fact he knows it was a fake! You should request a background on the seller and gold three dollar coins. He may have sold it to someone else before and they returned it for a refund , then he relisted it and sold it to you.

That is the risk you take from buying online. A lot of the time the online prices are as much if not more than if you got it from a coin dealer anyway. Mail order is always a risk. If you buy collectible coins, I always prefer to check the coin out in person before I buy. Also buy preferably from a reputable dealer...been around for many years.

If it is fake? Then I say. But I don't think it is fake.
That is the risk you face when buying coins from a sellers you have not bought from before. My Tactic is to try to only buy from sellers I have bought from before that i have gained trust in. Unless Its either somethign I know is real dispite how goos a deal is if I feel even a tiny bit unsure I leave it alone. Of drag it here to CT. This is the place to be for INFO and help if you ask me, If this seller sold the coin as REAL and has a return policy then you sould be able to get you money back. If they listed it as I DONT KNOW IF ITS REAL and have no return policy. Then your only real foot to stand on is the Feedback he left for you. Hes claiming you sent it back to him by saying you switched coins. I dont know how much you paid for this coin, and how fare your silling to fight for you cash back. But I would suggest asking a locol dealer to write a quick note, with mention of the coin on it stateing the date, denom and fact its not authentic. Also make sure its on either a letter head from that dealer. Then BUY SOMETHING FROM THAT DEALER. He is helping you. But that also tells you that the dealer is worth dealing with again. In anycase. good luck and go gettem tiger. lol Stick it to him.

    I don't think it's counterfeit.
I think it wore down as a jewelry piece and then it was tooled poorly.

wow, do I ever wish you guys were right. I would much rather have a tooled authentic one. I took some better pics of the coin, did you view my other threads?

It is counterfeit. No question about it.

And the seller lied when he said i tried to switch coins. No question about that either. His feedback was purely retalitory in order to get me to mutually withdraw. The negative affects my rating much more than mine affects his. Trust me, if I were scamming him, I wouldnt let that stand.

But it's my word against his........so there may not be much i can do in the end.

I hope you have learned at least one lesson from this unfortunate transaction. If you remover a coin purchased online or by mail, if you remove it from the dealers holder without his permission, It's yours and any return priviledge has been voided. This is pretty much standard procedure. Why? Because people DO switch coins. So you take it out it's yours.

    Tooled.

Someone has taken an instrument and attempted to restore lost detail.

Take a look at the legend - the letters in STATES have an odd alignment. The A and T are farther from the rim than the other letters.

At best, a coin with serious problems - tooled details, harshly cleaned, and imprisoned in a bezel. At worst, an outright counterfeit.

You can't get a $3 Princess with decent detail for $600.

Let's say you overlook the problems and call that XF details. Retail is around $1200.
