I’m considering buying this coin on the Internet and have found two photos of it from two different Internet auctions. The one on the right sold in May and the one on the left is for sale now. (Same coin) The question in my mind is if I buy it, will the coin I receive look like the one on the left or the one on the right? I’m beginning to think that the one on the left has had its brightness turned up & color saturation juiced up a little. I suspect that the one on the right shows a more true color but perhaps needs to have its brightness increased a little. What do you all think? Very best regards, collect89
I think both images are representative depending on howyou shine the light onthe coin. You could probably get a hundred looks depending on how you place the lights.
I think that rather than relying on images, you should only consider purchasing the coin if there is a full refund, no questions asked return privilege available from a well known/established seller. I have seen coins look much better, worse and/or different from images on countless occasions. It is not worth the risk to buy based on images, even from the best of sellers who don't try to make their coins look better/more attractive than they really are. And of course there are many sellers who have inferior images and/or bad motives. Nothing begins to compare to an in-hand inspection.
I agree with what the others have said... you should be able to examine it in person and return it 'painlessly' if it isn't just what you want.
The one on the left is a scan, and the one on the right is a photo. I suspect the coin in-hand looks somewhere in between the two. That said, I think Mr. Feld's advice above is dead on, and I would consider it very carefully...Mike
We do know what the slabs look like. The one on the left has been enhanced "juiced" as they say, most likely to emphasize the tone. The one on the right can be color balance adjusted until the NGC insert is white, that will take much of the beige out. I also agree with Mark, KSparrow, and Mike, ---In Hand decision. Does look nice in between. Jim
As noted if you can not see the coin yourself first, make sure you have a return policy. On the internet and even through glass casses at coin stores, pending the lighting, many coins look different that in real lighting. Ever notice the auto adds on TV and then you go look at that car. HMMM. So what happened to that fantastic shine, glow, luster as seen on TV?
If you can return it, go for it! It's a cool coin. Just make sure there are no "Buts" for a 65. Off topic - just went outside and saw the shuttle launch - spectacular!
