Just learning, but two weeks ago made a transaction on ebay. Did not insure but still have nothing to show. Paid 5 minutes after the purchase and have not received a thing. Is insurance there the smart thing? Thanks.

Have you gotten any emails from the seller....if not I would be wondering....since you have his name go to www.whitepages.com and get his phone # and call him.
But if you have heard from him and its in the mail just wait....most people would send a coin first class...and that takes about 7-10 days around this time of the year.

It depends on the value, on low dollars i would risk it but not on anything over $50 (your values may vary). The Post Ofiice does lose packages now and then, and unfortunately there is nothing you or the seller can do if you do not have insurance. I would send an email to the seller to see if they know any reason why the package may have been delayed, It could still be in transit.

The Christmas season could be part of the reason for the delay. I normally take the insurance on purchases over about $25. Under that I accept the risk. If transactions are confined to sellers with high ratings and a large volume of sales transactions, the risk is probably low.

    Did you pay with Paypal?

Since you said you paid 5 minutes after the auction ended, I'm going to assume the answer is yes.

First email the seller and ask when he mailed the package. Two weeks isn't an unreasonable shipping time for this time of year, it's a little on the long side for domestic shipping, but not unreasonable. If he has a reason for the delay wait another two weeks, I've found that most sellers will follow through as long as I'm patient.

If he doesn't respond to your email within 3 days (maybe more since it is the holidays and he may not have access to a computer), or it's been more than a month since you paid, then go to your paypal account and file a complaint. Paypal is bad for sellers, but good for buyers because unless the seller can prove that the package was delivered by producing his receipt for UPS/FedEx tracking or his USPS Delivery Confirmation receipt then Paypal will refund your money.

    Good luck!

I've waited up to almost a month to get my items from a seller. It can happen a lot, particularly if its a big seller on Ebay. They dont want to have to run to the post office everyday, so they wait till they have a big enough order to send out, which can take a while sometimes.

As a seller on ebay I ussually add insurance or delivery confirmation if an item is over $50 even if the buyer choses not to insure the item. This has been very useful in the past. One time I had an ebayer complain he did not recieve his item and was threatening to leave a negative and take action through Ebay. I had delivery confirmation on the item and checked it on the USPS web site and found out the item was delivered to the residence. SAo I emailed him the DC # and told him what I found out, the next day he emailed me that his son had accepted the package but forgot to tell him. When I buy on ebay I always ins. if over $40. The best thing is if you can find a seller you trust and one that has good pics. There are some great buys on ebay if you can find them.
