Perusing the auctions, I am seeing many, many more slabbed (ANACS) waffle cancelled coins. Did I miss the announcement to flood the market with them? Maybe someone got a hold of a waffle canceling piece of equipment and is producing these and then having them certified? Is anyone else seeing this? And too many others to even list.
I think people bought them, and they are sitting there, and someone sold one and it sold good, so now everyone is trying to offload off of the sale price of the one coin. I'd just say the more identifiable the better, and if you can identify the error that got it waffled even better, the dollars and quarters are the most common and I rarely see cents nickels and dimes. there was a recycler that was getting this scrap and found a way to make an extra couple bucks of it rather than just scrap it. Like this one,,,, this one is an amazing piece to get your hands on in my opinion. https://coins.ha.com/itm/patterns/-...elled-ms60-anacs-total-2-coins-/a/1204-6111.s Struck with the Mt. Someone put together their own waffler, after realizing that a "canceled" coin could be sold for a good bit more than an intact one?
I just seen 3 cancelled state quarters in an antique store for about $125.00! They were in a nice wooden display box! I was tempted but passed! Should I go back and buy them tomorrow?
Offer the dealer $100.00 cash for them. I would. With cash they are likely to avoid the credit card fees. But $125.00 isn’t too bad a price either. Most antique dealers ask more for coins than they are worth as they have no idea. I sell coins in my antique shop but I ask reasonable prices as I know what they are worth.
Are waffled standard-issue coins (as opposed to patterns) really worth THAT much of a premium? I had the impression that they were pretty common now.
That’s why I said offer $100.00 but $125.00 isn’t too bad, especially if you can identify the coin that’s been waffled to cancel it.
I'd offer $60 for the lot. The waffled quarters are common. it's a good buy at $20 each. I think $25-30 each is likely just about retail, $40 each, is a stretch, and yeah, they aren't antiques.... if he feels better he could keep the display box to sell seperately. LOL. this one sold on ebay on March 6th for just under $70. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2653240390...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 the "wooden display box" screams overpriced home shopping show junk and yeah, folks can't expect to get what they paid HSN for any of that.
In my opinion too much money I bought 100 of them Pcgs S or NGC I can’t remember which I bought them for $10 each. This was roughly 8 or nine years ago I have a lot of trouble believing that these things went up that much in value and there are tons of them out there Monix is the one who sold it to me last time. For what it’s worth.
You have to keep in mind though that you got a bulk price. 100 should always be cheaper per item than 2 or 3
Who pays good money for purposely damaged goods? Certainly not this old sod. And graded too? Cripes.........
