I recently bought three 2022-S Silver Proof sets and three 2022-S Limited Edition Silver Proof sets from the US Mint. I'm waiting for the 2023 ASE proofs to come out.
Silver Proof sets and ASE Proofs are the only coins I buy from the US Mint. I used to buy Presidential Silver Medals but I stopped buying those a while ago.

 

I used to collect the Proof ASEs. Had several complete sets but some got spots and I dumped them all. I did click a button to subscribe for a set of quarter rolls.

 

I like collecting Silver Eagles and they make up one third of all the silver coins I own. Of that one third most are proof and the remainder are BU and slabbed. Last year I put together three complete sets of ASE Proofs for my three (adult) children. They will inherit my collection someday which is why I order three, six or nine of everything I buy.

 

I Love thé design but simply can’t keep coins that can self destruct and become worthless.

 

Kripes, they'll never be worthless, based on the silver content alone.

 

I collect from the bank coins. Good enough for me. If you want proof sets then buy them. I would love to buy a few. But they cost way to much. If that wasn’t the case. I think the mint would sell out. They have other issues but I think the big bucks is the deal breaker

I can't see it becoming worthless anytime soon.

 

Perhaps Worth-Less is a better choice. Back in the day certain keys were several hundred dollars. Add Milk to the equation and it’s a loss. It would have been better to invest for the children or buy other coins instead. At one time I had 10 complete sets (minus the 95W). I dumped them all after discovering Milk spots. Ever try to sell Milk?

 

Proof coins are more expensive because they are struck differently than regular coins. Both the dies and blanks are polished before striking and they are struck more than once to get sharper features. With ASE Proofs you are also paying for the elaborate packaging and printed certification.
On the plus side ASE Proofs go up in value quickly. I have some 2022-W ASE Proofs that cost $73 and they now sell for $125.

 

Where? I just took a look and most sell at a loss over mint issue price.

 

APMEX is out of stock on 2022 ASE Proofs but 2021-W Proofs are going for $129.99 and 2021-S Proofs are going for $139.99. I paid $73 for 2021-W Proofs a little over a year ago.
JM Bullion has 2022-S ASE Proofs for $108.

 

Welp, I suppose if they can get those numbers that’s great for them considering volume discounts. I’m fairly certain if you’re selling there would be no interest at those numbers you cited. Ebay show’s

2021-S sales $55-80
2021-W sales $57-80
2022-S sales $60–$90

For these sellers after fees maybe they’d get enough for a McDonald’s small fry.

 

The two sites I mentioned as well as a third site I looked at had various years posted but were out of stock so someone must be buying them.
It doesn't matter to me because I'm a collector rather than an investor or a flipper. I have never sold any of my coins and never will.

 

I got curious and looked into the milk spot thing. These spots can appear on any coin and are caused by small amounts of solvent left on the blank after the cleaning process. Several mints are looking into ways to correct this problem.
