I sent this in to be graded and it got a 25 NET, I'm pissed, I think. I know a net is not a good thing to get but will it hurt the value too much? Is the grade a little harsh for the small areas of rust?
IMHO, over graded as a 25. Too many folds for me. I'll bet the rust will come off. Perhaps the standards have changed in the past four years as that was the last time I had something graded.
PMG's description of a NET notation; A “Net” graded note is one that exhibits mishandling or problems that are more significant than one would expect for the assigned numeric grade. Notes with moderate-to-extensive circulation are expected to exhibit some problems and PMG will not assign a “Net” grade unless these issues are severe. If a note is “Net” graded, the problem will be listed. Common problems that may result in a “Net” grade include a large tear or tears into the design, PVC damage, a missing corner, an amateur repair and extensive staining or annotations. The grade guarantee does not apply to Notes given a “Net” grade by PMG. Notes with “Net” grades are guaranteed to be genuine only. I believe the OP's note to be consistent with others receiving a NET grade in a similar condition. The rust stain is not only in the margin, but goes into the design of the note. Did you expect to not get a net grade ? A typical Fr.2053-G note in grade 25 sold in 2007 for $460 and recently they are selling for less than half of that......and that's without a NET grade.
I guess I wasn't aware of what to expect. I thought at least a 20 with no net designation. BTW the net was for the rust stain, I didn't realize it was significant or extensive enough to warrant that.
I would say you got a better grade then Actually what the note represents and Yes the "Net grade" is not a good thing
