iOS app for tracking collection?

    Hi everyone,

While I was at a coin show today (my first, by the way), I saw someone using an app for iPad that kept track of his collection. I didn't get a chance to ask him the name of it, but it looked like it was displayed like an album with "holes" for several coins in each row which were either filled or empty with dashed lines in a circle.

Does anyone know which app this was? Or if not, can you recommend any other good ones for Apple devices instead of just using a simple spreadsheet? Thanks!

I have both an iPhone & and iPad and every so often I look to see if there any "coin collecting" apps. The ones I usually see are the NGC & PCGS. There is one called US Coin Collector from Saint Soft. Not sure if that's the one you saw but since I also have world coins it would not fit my needs.

I think I might have found the app you're describing. It's called Numismatist. Taking a look I don't know if I would use it. It's "free" but has a lot of in app-purchases so you may end up paying more to use it.

The other option is that the person you saw had jailbroken their iPad and were using an app that is not available in the App Store.

Sorry one other thing. This is just based on experience. I've used a couple of specialized software over the years such as Bento, which was a database software, and the problem I ran into was that because there wasn't a big enough audience the software stopped being made/updated.

Being a "Mac" person I always enjoy have a graphical interface versus just using Excel but in the end I decided that what I really needed was a piece of software that would be there in 10, 20, or 30 years. Right now Excel looks like that piece of software so I migrated all my data into Excel. If something else comes along I may give it a try but I'll also add it to Excel just in case.

I too have searched and searched for a good "Smart Phone Coin App", and just haven't found one yet. I can't see spending the $10 (or more) for the purchased apps.. Always afraid I'd be disappointed. Then I worry that if I get a nice app... How do I get it out? What if I want a printout... things of that nature...

I've kept my collection (like many others) in Excel. I then recently updated them into Google Docs. My phone had an app for Google Docs.. and now I can access my coin collection at my desktop, and my phone. It's the best of both worlds for me!

    And it's free!

    :)

Well, since I have the creator of CoinBook Pro himself in this thread, I'd be silly not to ask you about it. :p Can you track your own collections in it? Because I see the price list and coin specifications, but it's not clear if there are boxes you can tick or holes you can fill to indicate you have a certain coin.

If that's not currently part of the app, is it in the works for the future? It was the first one I saw on the App Store and the most aesthetically pleasing in my opinion, but it might be missing that feature that I'm after. I collect US coins specifically, if that makes a difference.

Is there a way to scan a barcode or look up a coin that then can be used to sync into your coins on coinvault? Also my metals value is stale how do I update that? I'm pretty sure silver is not at $20.

I'd PM you but it won't let me. Basically, a big update is needed for CoinVault since an update broke some important things. But adding that scan feature is definitely a possibility, it will just take a lot of work. Anyone can PM me if you have any questions about my apps

Any possibility that you would make it open for foreign coins as well? Also are you planning any updates for iOS 8 & iPhone 6?

I have an update planned to fix the bug, but apps automatically scale for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus now, which is a huge help.
