Since we're having a late season snow storm I decided not to go open the shop last evening. Instead (today) I'm reinventorying and rearranging my collection. I just can't stand having all those coins locked up, never seeing the light of day. There have also been some toning surprises as well.

Last night I discovered a misattributed Capped Bust Half thus eliminating a duplicate and after correcting my files have removed a much needed type, yippee...

Here are a couple of pics from the basement.

Wow, thats a great idea. My collection needs some re-organizing. BTW- How do you like that Ancient Coin Image Database CD? I've been meaning to install it, but have been lazy since X-mas.

Actually, it's very helpful, got mine at Christmas too. :) I learned a lot from it, but I'm pretty new at the ancient thingie and haven't been aggressively working with them lately, so...

I just used and WOW. What a tool of information.

This has to be the god of all Ancient coin databases made. Kudos to this software, I highly recommend it.

Indeed, do you have any Track & Field medals? I'm sure you have many :D Ah, the memories, I remember when I was in HS and used to pin them on my Letter Jacket. How about you???

Bone, yeh I have a few medals....ribbons, and trophies. The trophies are hard to wear on my letter jacket ;). As for the other metals and such, they really aren't that good for wearing on the jacket either.

    Here's my breakdown:
    Ribbons-54
    Medals-31
    Trophies-19 (10 for running)

That's not even including the numerous plaques I've received.

Anyway, I'm halfway through reorganizing my collection and setting several coins aside to sell (someday) to get upgrades and such. I'll probably finish tomorrow sometime.

Wonderful collection. I don't want to get too far off-topic but I went to college (1979-1982) on a Track-n-Field (hurdles) schlorship. I remember the hardware (Medals) in HS were far better than what I received at SFASU.

It appears that some of the 2x2's in the first photo are not properly aligned with the rest of them. Also, it appears that not all denominations are in order.
I don't know if they'ld fit but at many coin shows they sell red and black cardboard boxes for 2x2's and some for 1 1/2x1 1/2 sizes. They come in single row, double row short and double row long. Not sure of the actual size but I use the larger ones and they hold about 300 2x2's not squeezed in. I have about 10 of those filled and just put them in one big gun case. They are all organized by denomination and then date. Makes it easy to know what is there.

Oh, I trimmed some ot the flips which have smaller coins so I could save on space. That was before I purchased folders for my Bust Halves... :)

Having lived in three houses with water problems, I would raise that safe up at least a few inches off of the floor for peace of mind. One of those 100 year storms could cause a lot of trouble.

Appreciate the concern, but it's really not necessary. This place actually has a 3-4 ft crawl space or sub-basement under the basement floor. I've guesstimated the total depth from ground level to bottom of crawl space at 14 feet, and the normal water table is far below that. We have a deep-well which is close to 1100 ft deep. The trapdoor to access this crawl space is under the rug in the picture.

Looks like you have some really big coins in that collection, alot bigger then mine which as a man I do not like to confess.
It is swimming weather down here now, just have to heat the pool for a few hours but as nice as that all sounds my kids are asking me to take them on vacation where they can see snow. Go figure.
Regarding track, as you know the real military academics usually need a congressman's recommendation, etc to get into. Well when I had more muscle then fat the Merchant Marine Academy based out in Long Island approach me for a scholarship. Thought it was kind of strange that those with sea legs would have a track team. But Navy did have an active seamen gold medal winner around 50 years ago. I was told by the Merchant Marine people that he used to run around the ship. I asked if he was on an aircraft carrier and they said no. Man that would be alot of laps but at least good step training.

Surprized to hear you say you trim those 2x2's. You must be aware of the 1 1/2x1 1/2 inch sizes. That is all I am now seeing at coin shows lately for anything that will fit in them. Lots cheaper.

Oh, I've got to make due with whatever the Hobby Lobby in town (50 miles) has and they're the standard 2"x2" variety. Sometimes only the dollar sized ones are available. Those I can fit three dimes or four half-dimes into :D I've even had to resort to little baggies when no flips are available. It's really not a big problem.
