Picked up this coin awhile back because of the interesting marks on the edge. I thought it may have been double struck. They appear to be portions of letters but I see no device on the coin that would match. The reverse gives me no clue. I'm stumped.

This is not a mint error. This cent was an insert in a "lucky token" or advertising token. The coin was placed in a ring and then stamped. In this case the stamp -- whose design was supposed to be confined to the ring -- overlapped the cent.

Thanks Mike. Now that you point it out, it's obvious.
