Interesting new ancient coin find in the news today: http://news.yahoo.com/sheds-light-ancient-jerusalem-092556159.html TC
i saw article that before you posted it. cool stuff! this is just one of the many things i love about history. every time you think you have the answer to something, something else will pop up and make you question what you have learned.
Just goes to show how ancient sources were more right than people and researchers give them credit for. A lot of these old historians were talking of facts known to them but still unknown to us. Same goes for historical references in the bible. I am always careful to believe a modern researcher when he tries to claim an ancient source was simply wrong, and s/he knows better. There are so many accounts of modern researchers debunking an ancient source just to be proven wrong later that the list would take forever to compile. Chris
Chris: Good point and I agree with you to a degree. Remember, however, that Ancient sources had their own agendas and biases. Question: It was suggested at forvmancientcoins that some of these were the coins from the proconsulate Ambibulus or Coponius. Would that include coin H635 in the guide below? It is from Coponius (prefect under Augustus). What coins can people make out? http://www.menorahcoinproject.org/index.htm Thanks, ahead of time, guy
