Interesting Key Date/CBD Love Token

I’ve never seen a key date turned into a Love token, so I thought I’d share this one made out of an 1822 Capped Bust Dime!

It’s too bad. Coin had nice details. Dean must have really loved himself to deface a classic American rarity in his own honor.

I saw an 1879 Seated Half Dollar turned into a love token. Broke my heart, but it made it affordable for someone working on a business-strike set.

 

What a shame.

 

The flowing artistry some of these folks had with hand tools astonished me. I couldn’t do an engraving flowing that well with a high speed Dremel tool.

 

what we have to remember is that when these coins were "defaced" they were only pocket change

 

I've seen an XF 1886 V nickel love token.

As for the 1822 bust dime, it could have been worse, he could have planed off the entire reverse.
