Ok so some may not think this is interesting but I think it's cool! It appears to be some Civil War era or slightly after coins that were maybe in a fire. They are all melted together. I'm sure my dad kept it because he loved history. I am fascinated by history as well, especially that time period. I'm not asking for numismatic value, that's kind of obvious, just thought I would share something I thought was neat!
Yeah, that's a great find! At a state-level coin show a couple of years ago, the Barber collector group was displaying a stack of Barber coins (don't remember the denomination) that were apparently in a fire soon after they were released. Great detail on the parts that weren't fused together. To think about what caused those coins to end up that way, and when and how they were found...
Truly Awesome find! Ditto Hommer, some times ya just wonder where a coins been, who's pocket it's been in......especially the civil war era type coins. Cool stuff!
I agree it would be so cool to know where the fire was or who they belonged too or even where my dad got them. I'll probably never find out but it's neat to think of the possibilities!
That is actually really cool. Thanks for sharing! I saw one clump of silver coins that was salvaged from a San Francisco bank in 1906. They were fused by the fire following the great earthquake.
