There was an error coin I was interested in on ebay. I made an offer, and it was declined. I asked him how much it would take to buy it, and here is the back and forth response... (start from bottom of page now and read up.. that's how I copied and pasted from ebay). If you want to avoid the seller it is coinbuyer555

Him: Overpriced...rubbish ya just tight fisted low baller scumbag who knows nothing.

Me: I have the money, I just think that is overpriced for what it is.
    Thanks

Him: I have taken payments for those who cannot afford the outlay all at once, done via paypal for protection.
Sold a load of sovereigns over five months recently.
    Any interest?
Does have to be done outside ebay though.

Me: Oh well, thanks. Good luck.

Him: If it was more off center it would be a lot more money.
Lowest I would take would be $2500 final as its well worth it and I have turned a few offers down inn the $2000 area

    Me: Would you take $1,750?

Him: well if ya can't afford it that's that.

Me: If it was a bigger off center, I can maybe see that price. Honestly, this one is not even big enough to list as 5% off center. Did you buy it already graded or did you get it graded yourself? I like the coin, but I am not sure how much higher I can go.

Him: heritage say they could sell it for around $3000 as they had one in 2006 which went for $3500 plus hammer fee. It was MS62 as well I think. I'll send it there if ebay turns out to be dead.
    Your previous message

Me: What price do you need for this coin?
    Thanks,

He has a $2,900 buy it now, but I honestly do not know what the coin is worth, since there are not a ton of them out there. $1,750 might have been offensive to him, but I probably would have gone close to his "must have" price. But probably not now. Or maybe I should, so I can get the coin and still get to leave him some awesome feedback? lol

Well I didn't like the way he talked to you. Very rude and that's why I tossed up the memes.

Seriously, I don't understand how some dealers manage to stay in business considering how they talk to customers.

I really love how he tells you that he basically does layaway and does it outside of ebay. Says he's done this before and would do again. Even though he is saying he does paypal for your protection. Isn't this outside of ebay more up on ebay's no-no list? Wouldn't it be more prudent with his attitude to just report the convo to ebay?

You might still have paypal protection... but I believe it has to be done in one payment, not payment plans like this. I don't have a huge issue with doing deals outside ebay... I have done them as buyer and seller before.

Yes, I have done deals outside of ebay, but not when the item was on ebay as a listed item. This is where ebay has issues.... basically using their site to get a buyer for an item and concluding it outside of ebay, where ebay is having it reported as not being sold. Ebay loses money and it is basically a fraudulent type of construct: an under the counter sale.

I think it's totally fair to first see an item on eBay, then find it on the seller's web site and cut eBay out of the deal, if the seller is reputable. I find it's usually good for about a 15% discount. It's not my fault eBay inherently has a disintermediation issue.

I know it's the same coin, that's the point. Last seller was asking 3.4k. Current seller is asking 2.5k.
